GVS Community Garden at CF61

Over the last few months the GVS gardening project at our community centre at CF61 in Llantwit Major has taken on a massive transformation thanks to our brilliant and dedicated volunteers.

The entrance now has a sensory area filled with fragrant flowers and plants. We now have a bench on our beach area which will be completed soon and the Spring flowers are now in bloom.

The volunteers have completed our mini orchard with fruit trees and bushes and updated the flower beds near the staff entrance. “No dig” veg patches have been created and planted with beans and garlic which once harvested will be added to the food supplies for Foodshare.

Work has started on the children’s area with a living willow screen and log seats. We made a successful grant application which has allowed us to purchase the bench, bat, bird and bee houses which will be put in place soon.

A copse of Rowan trees have been planted near the carpark and a herb planter has been created with the help of the members of ValePlus which have been attending sessions weekly with one of our volunteers.

We have lots of ideas and more work to be done to make this area a community space for all to enjoy but we are unable to do this without the help from volunteers. If you would like to get involved and volunteer with us please get in touch with Cath Haines at cath@gvs.wales

A massive thank you to our fantastic volunteers for all their hard work.
